Who qualifies for the Elderly and Disabled
(“E & D”) Waiver
?
This program is for people who qualify for Medicaid financially AND who would require placement in a long-term care facility if they did not get help in their home. In addition to meeting the criteria for nursing facility level of care, the financial requirement must be met to qualify for the Waiver. This can be done if you are eligible for one of the following groups: - SSI Recipients, - SSI-related protected groups, - Federal or State Adoption Subsidy, OR - You meet the income limit requirements provided by Medicaid which can change year to year. What Services Are Offered & What Are The Service Limitations?

What services does the Medicaid waiver program offer in Alabama? Services include: case management, personal care, homemaker services, companion services, respite care, adult day services, nutrition & meals.

The amount of services you can get will be determined by the level of care that you need to stay at home and how much help you already receive. The Waiver is supposed to support, not replace, the care you are already getting.

Additional Information

There is no out-of-pocket cost to you for these services. Additionally, these services do not affect your eligibility to receive other benefits, such as: SSI, Medicare, food assistance, etc.
